SWIFT Education Center
Research Project Manager
As a research project manager for the SWIFT Education Center, I coordinate fidelity measures that help schools and leadership teams monitor inclusive education. I have trained over a hundred educators across the country to serve as external assessors, managed 300+ assessments, and overseen the refinement of multiple SWIFT-FIT and SWIFT-FIA versions.

As a classroom teacher, I taught predominantly middle school and have experience ranging from preK - post-secondary as a paraeducator, mentor, tutor, and school advisory board member. I have taught undergraduate and graduate-level courses at three universities and am currently an adjunct graduate faculty member in the Department of Special Education at the University of Kansas, where I prepare future teachers.

I earned a bachelor's degree from UW-Madison, a master's from Minnesota State University, Mankato, and a PhD in adolescent literacy and learning disabilities from KU. During my doctoral studies, I was advised by Dr. Don Deshler and focused on learning strategies, content enhancements, and adolescent literacy developed at the KU Center for Research on Learning. For my dissertation research, I created a 150-page iPad iBook and tested its effects to that of a traditional textbook on adolescents with disabilities. My research interests include instructional strategies, classroom-based technologies, building leadership, and schoolwide measures. I hope one day to be an elementary or middle school principal. I'm a third-generation Chicago Cubs fan, have run five 26.2-mile marathons, and love BLTs. My wife and I have two children, two dogs, and a great garden. Thanks for attending the MTSS PLI!
